This striking Special Edition sports 16-inch Sawtooth alloy wheels and comes in Santorini Black or Fuji White with contrast Corris Grey roof, grille and headlight surrounds and facia. The interior boasts exclusive full leather seats with LXV embossed front headrests and unique orange contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel and centre cubby compartment to complement exterior LXV decals. An optional union flag decal can be located on the rear of the vehicle. Prices will be available in August.

Around 150 heritage Land Rovers are attending the celebratory event at Packington Estate which was the testing ground for the original 1947-48 Land Rover prototypes through to the Range Rover development vehicles of the late 1960s and early 70s. The third part of the puzzle is the 2013 Lexus GS hybrid models, the GS450h. Because regular beat and F Sport version of the GS350 as the most powerful member of the family sporty new GS, we expected performance sedan. But its a hybrid, right? Is not hybrid cars on fuel economy and feel superior? Sure. But the hybrid electric motor can also be considered as an additional source of power. They can provide performance and economy; it all depends on how you drive. 

Well, in this case, the GS450h probably the most powerful members of the GS lineup, but also the most sporty bunch. GS450h blew himself up the road with the same kind of tranquility as its big brother, the LS460. There incomplete road or engine noise, this luxurious trip, and the seats are soft like butter mashed potatoes. Its a kind of luxury is a trademark Lexus, and its fun, as long as you do not expect a sports sedan. We do not like mouselike control for infotainment system Lexus, but the rest of the interior is a soothing cocoon. Hybrid dress with optional bamboo interior trim, and significantly brighten the cabin. Hold the steering-wheel rim bamboo, and hand you would guess Jaguar, Bentley, something British? 

Start GS450h, and you will see there is no tachometer, power and charging only a speedo next measure. Turn the Drive Mode button for the sport, and measuring the force disappears and turns into a tach, numbers and all. In addition to getting a tachometer, switch to send more water sports for the electric drive motor to increase its role in our velocities tests conducted in sport mode. This system uses two electric motors, one under the hood which mainly handles charging and the other in the rear differential to help drive the wheels; the latter works in concert with the Atkinson-cycle V-6 to produce 338 hp (32 more than the rest of the lineup GS). Only, and port direct-injected V-6 making 286 hp, 20 less than the 3.5-liter V-6 in the GS350. 

Drive it like a Prius, and GS450h handily beats the fuel economy of gas-only GS models. In our hands, it achieves 27 mpg in a mix of highway and city driving. More careful driver should be able to match the EPA fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city and 34 highway. 

Despite the additional power of the hybrid system, in our tests it was still the slowest member of the new GS lineup, turning in a 0-to-60-mph of 5.7 seconds. The GS350 and GS350 F Sport AWD we have tested slightly faster to 60, at 5.5 and 5.6 seconds. Passing power in hybrid better than gas-only version, however, such as the electric motor provides a boost turbolike after GS450h is up to speed.

Two iconic products will be forming an alliance later this year: the iPhone from Apple and the Beetle from Volkswagen. From that point on, the smartphone will interface to vehicle functions of the Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet via a specially developed app (“Volkswagen Car Net The Beetle”) and a docking station. This makes it the first model series of the Volkswagen Group in which the iPhone will become an integrative component. Volkswagen offers two different ways to acquire the innovative interface between iPhone and Beetle. First, as an optional feature. Second, as a standard feature of the newly conceptualised iBeetle and iBeetle Cabriolet.

Located centrally on the dashboard of the Beetle is the newly designed docking station (cradle), in which the iPhone is integrated by simply snapping it in – similar to a mobile navigation system. And then the fun can begin. Essentially, all iPhone functions can be used in the Beetle; the iPhone can be used to navigate, telephone naturally via a hands-free unit, listen to music from the media library via the audio system’s amplifier and loudspeakers, and much more ...

When the app is launched, it can either connect the iPhone to the Beetle (“docked”), or not (“undocked”) – the driver or front passenger decides that. As soon as the iPhone connects to the data network of the Beetle via the app and the docking station (“docked”), it all begins. The app supplies a main menu with the following functions:

“Spotify” lets users stream media such as new songs, customised playlists or online radio stations directly to the iPhone and from there into the sound system of the Beetle. Those who wish can post their favourite music directly to friends. In addition, users in the Beetle can switch between “Spotify” and “iTunes” at any time.

Under the “Expert” menu, the app offers five functions which make the iPhone an extended on-board instrument of the Beetle. Offered here are a G-Meter (for measuring transverse acceleration), oil and coolant temperature gauges for the engine, a chronometer and a compass.

The “Trainer” can be used to compare driving times, distances and fuel economy values for different routes between any two destinations. Here too, tips can be posted via social networks like Twitter and Facebook – such as which route leads quicker to the university or to a work destination.

The (social) “Reader” lists the latest messages from social networks like Facebook. There is also a practical function for having iPhone messages read aloud here.

Another communicative functionality is offered by “Postcard”. In response to a touchscreen command, the app sends the current location of the Beetle to friends as a digital postcard with a map motif. Sender identification: “Sent with the Beetle App”.

A photo can be taken from the interior of the Beetle by iPhone camera and sent to social networks with the “Photo” function. Simply activate it, and the app does the rest. Here too, the sender identification is: “Sent with the Beetle App”.

In the “undocked” mode, the “Milestones” menu is available. Here the app rewards its users with virtual “milestone stickers” for the Beetle when certain tasks have been completed. This is how the app playfully guides users through the range of possible applications.

Volkswagen conceptualised the iBeetle for the debut of iPhone 5 integration – it is one of the first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple. As mentioned, the special model will be available as a Coupé and Cabriolet. The colours and equipment features of the iBeetle are stylistically linked to the Cupertino-based US company, bringing the icons of its smartphones into harmony with what is certainly one of the world’s most iconic automotive designs.

The iBeetle, which will be available at the beginning of 2014 (advance sales already begin in October 2013), will not just be delivered to its owners with the standard iPhone interface, but with other customised features as well. On the exterior, they include standard features such as 18-inch “Disc” alloy wheels (painted in “Galvano Grey” with chrome wheel covers), door mirror housings and side trim panels (above the sill) in “Galvano Grey”, black door sill plates with “iBeetle” signature, “iBeetle” chrome badges (front wing in area of the A-pillars) and a “Chrome pack” (includes chrome trim strips on the sides). Fitting for the well-structured products from Cupertino, the new iBeetle can be ordered in the colours “Candy White”, “Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect”, “Black Monochrome”, “Deep Black Pearl Effect”, “Platinum Grey” or “Reflex Silver”.

In the interior, the steering wheel accents are executed in “Galvano Grey”. This colour is also used for the horizontal instrument pad (the dash pad that typifies the Beetle). The iBeetle is also upgraded by a customised gear shift grip, black sport seats in exclusive “Vienna” leather and contrasting seams in light “Ceramique”. The iBeetle and the iPhone – an ideal combination.

Twenty years ago, the Audi Avant RS2, founder of the dynamic RS family, had its debut – and now Audi is launching a special edition of the current model on the market. The RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection will become available from early 2014, and will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show with Nogaro blue paint finish and exclusive equipment. The customized Nogaro blue, pearl effect paint finish is the most salient visual signal of the anniversary model, and is also reminiscent of the RS2. The frame and use of the Singleframe grille, as well as the window slot trims, are painted high-gloss black, and the roof rails matt black. The RS sport exhaust system terminates in two oval, high-gloss black tailpipe trims.

Under the hood of the Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection operates a high-revving V8 naturally aspirated engine with a displacement of 4,163 cc. The 4.2 FSI delivers 331 kW (450 hp) of power output at 8,250 rpm, with peak torque of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The resonant eight-cylinder engine accelerates the anniversary model from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.7 seconds and takes it to a governed top speed of 280 km/h (173.98 mph). Its combined fuel consumption is 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers (21.98 US mpg) – for a CO2 equivalent of 249 grams per kilometer (400.73 g/mile).

With its high efficiency and tall top gear, the standard seven-speed S tronic also contributes to fuel efficiency. The driver can let the lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission shift operate automatically or change gears themselves using the selector lever or the steering wheel paddles.

The core of the quattro permanent all-wheel drive is the self-locking crown gear center differential. The compact and lightweight component distributes torque at a default ratio of 40:60 between the front and rear axles. This ratio can be broadly varied as required – with up to 70 per cent of the power going to the front and a maximum of 85 per cent to the rear. The crown gear center differential cooperates with the wheel-selective torque control, which makes handling at curve limits even more dynamic through selective, small brake impulses. Audi offers the sport differential as an optional addition that actively distributes the power between the rear wheels.

The standard equipment of the Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection also includes the Audi drive select dynamic driving system. This system allows variation between three modes – comfort, auto and dynamic – for the characteristics of the electromechanical power steering, the seven-speed S tronic, the accelerator and the RS sport exhaust system. And if the car is equipped with Audi MMI navigation, there is also a fourth mode – individual – that can be configured by the driver. Besides the sport differential, two further optional elements are available for Audi drive select. The dynamic steering varies the steering ratio depending on the speed and countersteers with small impulses at curve limits. The RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) equalizes the roll and pitch for the firmly sprung suspension by strictly mechanical means.

The Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection rides on 265/30 series tires. Behind the gloss turned finish 20-inch wheels in 5-V-spoke design gleam red-painted brake calipers bearing RS emblems. The brake discs featuring a wave design are internally ventilated, perforated and joined to the aluminum brake disc chambers by pins. Audi installs carbon-fiber-ceramic discs at the front axle on request. The Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) offers a sport mode and can also be entirely deactivated as required.

In the sporty black interior, Audi offers two different upholstery versions for the electrically adjustable S sport seats with their integrated head restraints. In both cases, the side sections are covered with black Valcona leather; the Alcantara synthetic fibers for the center sections and door trim inserts are colored either black as well or nogaro blue – in homage again to the Audi Avant RS2. The armrests are covered with black leather, with blue contrasting stitching providing accents. Black or nogaro blue piping frames the black floor mats.

Black leather with blue stitching also refines the steering wheel rim and the selector lever boot. Blue threads run through the carbon inlays to lend them a very special shimmer. A badge on the RS selector lever knob of the S tronic and the logos on the door sill trims refer to the special status of the anniversary model.

In early 2014, the Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection will arrive at dealerships as a limited special edition. Its base price is 87,300 euros.

The Audi RS2 from 1994 was the first RS model from Audi and also the first high-performance model from the brand to combine full everyday suitability with a dynamic character, becoming the founder of a whole family of dynamic models. Audi had developed the RS2 in cooperation with Porsche, with assembly occurring at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Its appearance alone was indicative of the power of the first RS model. The front bumper featured powerful air inlets, and the grille was painted black. The exterior mirrors came from Porsche, the rear was emblazoned by a full-width band of light, and the emblems were large-sized. The RS2 optionally left the assembly line with an exclusive Nogaro blue paint finish, recalling the two victories achieved by Frank Biela on the Nogaro circuit in the French Touring Car Championship of 1993.

The engine embodied Audi’s full expertise from touring car sports. The 2.2-liter five-cylinder engine delivered 232 kW (315 hp) by way of a large turbocharger, high boost pressure, expanded air ducting and adapted engine management. At 3,000 rpm 410 Nm (302.40 lb-ft) of torque were available, with the limiter only taking effect at 7,200 rpm. The RS2 accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.4 seconds and reached a top speed of 262 km/h (162.80 mph). A six-speed manual transmission delivered the power to the quattro drivetrain, which had a manually activated locking differential at the rear axle.

The suspension with its all-round transverse links derived from the suspension of the technical starting basis, the Audi S2. The shock absorbers were even firmer and the springs were shortened. Porsche supplied the 17-inch wheels, the large, internally ventilated brake discs and the red-painted four-piston calipers.

The interior was dominated by Silk Nappa leather and Alcantara in the color anthracite, blue or silver gray, and the Recaro seats were electrically adjustable. The instruments bore white dials, while small indicators on the center console kept the driver informed about the oil pressure, oil temperature and vehicle system voltage. CFRP inlays were optionally available.

Audi offered the RS2 at a base price of DM 98,900. Within a construction period of barely two years 2,908 units were produced – more than the quantity originally planned.
